This comic was the winner of this month's Patreon poll! Please enjoy our only collab comic (besides Bring Me The Head of Phineas Gage, which had a more traditional writer/artist division)!

A silly Nintendo adventure. )

Sneak: Sorry for the delay on this! The holiday and our shoulder slowed me down, but all our comics on healthymultiplicity.com should now be up and working again! And now I get to finally tell you about what I ORIGINALLY wanted to tell y'all about before I managed to accidentally delete everything...

Phosphor of [personal profile] hungryghosts wrote up some snazzy code that allows you to cross-reference multiple [community profile] pluralstories tags at the same time! So now the Pluralstories Tag Page exists! This should make things easier for mobile users, and just anybody who doesn't want to kludge together chunks of Dreamwidth URL! Thank you, Phosphor! :D

Sneak: While updating healthymultiplicity.com with a new feature... with two clicks I ended up accidentally deleting every comic we ever posted to the website. T_T I am reuploading and correcting the filing system to make future things easier, but things might be hairy for a bit. I will update this post when I have finished, but I will probably have many bugs to fix.

EDIT 23:16: I have reuploaded all the comics (except Alter Boys In Love, which needs to be redone because I think its file is too big and my zipper/PDFer doesn't work on Linux anymore) and thumbs and corrected the file tree. You will probably need to update your bookmarks, and if anything is still broken or not showing up, please let me know right away!

I also have a treat for you guys but that will have to wait until I get a good night's sleep and finish the fixes from before. -_- The important thing is, no data was lost. Hooray for back-ups!

I am truly floored that we apparently never uploaded this anywhere, but it was the winner of this month's fan poll, so we have uploaded...

Made of NOODLES!: 2016. Oh no! Sneak's arms are made of NOODLES! Very silly. 1 page. Script here.

Sneak: There are a lot of things for [community profile] pluralstories that we really want to take in, but due to shoulder/migraine issues haven't been able to get to. T_T So I thought I'd list them here, for people who can more easily read ebooks, play games, and might be interested!
  • Children of the Void, by Regina Snow. I don't even know how to explain this book. There's an all-girl universe where the cast page has everyone in groups, which "represents characters that manifest in the same body (and which therefore cannot appear at the same time)". There are lots of spankings and domestic discipline.
  • Ghost Trick. PSP game about being a ghost who tries to solve murder puzzles through semi-incompetent possessing! It looks so cool and fun! I just can't play it or even watch the Let's Play. T_T
  • D.I.D., by kyui. Free computer game with a multi protagonist. "Each alter possesses unique abilities and traits that can be harnessed to overcome obstacles and complete tasks.  For each task, the player needs to choose the alter with the right proficiency to do that task. However, a malevolent force known as "The Shadow" seeks to manipulate the alters, rendering them inactive and hindering progress."
  • Imaginary Friends, by Manny Tsu. Pay-what-you-want RPGmaker computer game. "Hailey finds herself in an imaginary world. With the help of a mysterious young boy with red cap, she has to confront her childhood and herself. The game contains elements of psychological horror, non-graphic violence, blood and mentions of bullying. It is not recommended for players under the age of 13."
  • A Friend in Me, by BotchBrother. Solo Journalling RPG that "encourages the players to explore how a Child grows over the course of their life with a fantastical Friend encouraging and challenging them in a partnership, not unlike the friendships of children's books, fairy tales, and folklore."

EDIT: Solution in progress! Thanks, friends!

Sneak: Soooo, it turns out my clever solution to the plural tagging problem by batch-renaming them as "1+" means that I can no longer get the "AND" command working to cross-reference multiple 1+ tags. It seems that adding the + sign (or any symbol that isn't a letter or number) changes the 1+ tag URL from pluralstories.dreamwidth.org/tag/plural:blahblahblah to pluralstories.dreamwidth.org/?tag=1%2B:blahblahblah. The OR command still seems to work (apparently it's the default if you just list the comments, as shown with https://pluralstories.dreamwidth.org/?tag=1%2B:relationships:romantic,1%2B:creator+speaks+from+experience,price:free ) but...

That... is a major problem. Like, I know kludging together the tag URLs for cross-referencing is really hard on mobile in general, but at least it wasn't IMPOSSIBLE. The whole reason I wanted to set it up this way was so people could cross-reference multiple tags at once and make sure they only got things that pinged ALL the correct tags!

I am also not sure how to FIX it. Like, batch renaming the tag to "plural" again has the same problems as before. Numbers get boosted up the ranks, but >1 just broke things completely, and any other number choice would be totally arbitrary.

The only other solution I can think of is to figure out a "1+" synonym that ranks alphabetically between "about" and "access," which is... I don't know any. (And "access" also doesn't come with any synonyms I can think of easily to give more wiggle room.)

Nooooooo. I tried too hard to be clever and reap my folly. T_T

lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Sneak: I did a much-needed update of the [community profile] pluralstories tags! I know big sweeps like this make it harder for people but it really needed doing. <_<;
  • The "language" tags have been popped out into their own section again because they were swamping the "access" tag section otherwise. The access section is way more manageable now!
  • I changed all the "plural" tags to "1+" instead, which was long overdue. They're probably the tags people look at most, and having them under P meant they were buried at the end of the page, and also "plural" no longer felt expansive enough for my purposes. Renaming to "1+" solved both problems! :D
  • In that vein, I relocated the "creator" tags into 1+, and I merged them into one "creator speaks from experience" tag. There were only two different tags in the first place ("plural creator" and "creator speaks from experience") because I created the "plural creator" one first, then realized that it wasn't expansive enough. That's a distinction that I no longer see as relevant to the archive. It felt like playing into turf wars.
  • I merged the "dissociation" tag into "1+:type:medical" because that Venn Diagram is basically one circle.
  • The 1+ change did mean I had to relabel the most vital "about the archive" tags with a preceding 0 so they'd stay on top, but oh well.
The 1+ tag is still hairier than I'd like, but oh well, it's an improvement!

Sneak: I have gone through [community profile] pluralstories and added back-up links to everything I could, and sent requests to a few people about rehosting their work, because two more things have been deleted off the Internet and now, as far as I know, only my local hard drive copies remain! From here on out, every new submission I get, I'm going to try and have a back-up link at the start when feasible. -_-

I also changed the "access:deleted" tag to "access:lost media" to describe works that are partially lost (like parts of Silverwolf, the Princess and the System, and Gemini) and added "access:online" for works that can be found on the Internet.

I am so tired. Is dinner and sleep time now.

Sneak: Our internet is having trouble so we're using roomy hotspot and need to move quickly, but we have uploaded this month's poll winner, LB Goes to Alaska: a travel comic about being the best entity at Zyfron's wedding, equal parts pontificating about identity and looking at moose. 32 pages. 2017. Script here.
lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Cohost is going down, which means I've gone through the pluralstories catalog and put up back-up links of every entry originally hosted there.

The only entry I haven't done yet is Loony, by Sapphic Slob, which, being an adults-only erotic comic, is behind an "adults only" click-through that the Wayback Machine cannot bypass. I have sent a message to Saph asking if she has it uploaded anywhere, and if not, if we may have permission to rehost it. (EDIT: backed up! All set!)

I'm really glad I have gotten into the habit of making local copies of everything as I go through! Maybe I should just get in the habit of making Wayback Machine links for every catalog entry it's relevant for, as I go... just to make sure.
lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Sneak: I went through the [community profile] pluralstories "nonhumans" tag, and I manually added in the catalog entries the various nonhumans represented! I had considered doing a tag family, but it would've rapidly gotten out of control, with a billion tags all with only one or two entries. (Also the thought of trying to squish them down makes me cry--like, have separate tags for angels, demons, lwa, mpungos, gods, and spirits, or compress them down to "spirits"? But what if someone is SPECIFICALLY looking for Vodoun works and want lwa specifically? Oh no!)

Now, if someone really wants to find, say, a pluralstory with robots, they can just search "robot" and get a dozen!

The only entry I couldn't do this with was System's Out! because it's really, REALLY long and an outside submission. (I also was kind of stumped by Soft-Pedaled because there were characters I couldn't really guess the species of or how to quantify them!) But it's a start, at least!

lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Sneak: [community profile] pluralstories has been a humble success! I've succeeded at all my goals: I have a creator name under each letter of the alphabet, and I have more stories cataloged than the old Multiple Personality and Dissociation Booklist! (We have about 180 stories in it now!) I've also managed to make local copies of most of the work that's feasible to. There has been a quiet but steady little trickle of people submitting really cool things that I never would've known about myself, stuff that delightfully pushes the boundaries of what a "plural story" can be, and nobody has tried to use it to be mean!

I need to do some tag trimming, I know. I'm planning on axing the format tags completely, since I doubt anyone really uses or needs them, and I also plan to rename the whole plural tag family as >1 or 1+ so they'll be at the top of the tag list, since I bet that's what people care about most! Those 1+ tags need streamlining as well, they're a bit overgrown.

Still, I feel really proud of how my little project has grown over two years! I know it's gotten me to learn about fun multi media that I never would've known about otherwise, and I hope it helps other people find fun things too! Linkrot is a shame, but it's my hope that my archiving work will keep them from completely disappearing, as so many tiny subcultural self-published works tend to do! So far, we have only lost one story to linkrot, as far as I know!

Also oh my gosh I am so glad I lifted the "must be submitted by a plural" rule, singlets have contributed some really amazing works to the catalog! :D

Sneak: last night I laid out two humane mousetraps, and this morning one had caught a mouse!

It was already dead. :( There were no signs of mess or panic chewing, and it was still on its feet with its eyes open, so best I can figure the poor thing scared itself to death. (Biff says maybe it just had a freak mouse heart attack or something.) I took it to a quiet little corner of park so that it could rest easy and be returned to the ecosystem without fuss. I will keep an eye on its decay process and if no scavengers get it, perhaps I can procure a mouse skull.

Regardless, at least the traps are working!

RIP mouse.

Sneak: We will post about these again as the time nears!

Saturday, February 11, 7:00 pm, we will be presenting about the logistics and empowerment of getting consensually sterilized for the Pleasure Pie Reproductive Justice Salon, an abortion fundraiser! It is raising funds for five different abortion funds. It will take place at Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA. Suggested donation: $15-50

On Thursday, March 16th, 12:25-1:25, we will be reprising our All Narrators are Unreliable presentation for Hilary Chute's Graphic Medicine course at Northeastern! You can read the text-and-image version here!

Also, like Biff, I decided to change my icon to art someone else made for me, in this case, [personal profile] hungryghosts ! :D I like it!

Skulls!

Sneak: I have scavenged a rat and a rabbit skull! The bones are mostly clean, and one of my goals will be to complete the process and bleach them for inside! @_@ It will be a good experiment, and one I can do even though we're still recovering; it takes time, rather than effort!

I am very pleased. It is hard to find intact skulls!

Sneak: Comments are back to normal.

I did a tweak of the tags in @pluralstories so that now "creator" has its own tag section, with "plural" for creators who publicly announced their plurality (though they may have fused/integrated afterward), and "speaks from experience" for creators who have publicly stated the work is autobiographical or partly so, but who may not be plural themselves.

Seeing the dangers of harassment, being outed, or misidentified, I don't want to call someone plural if I'm not absolutely sure that's what they've said! Plus, this is a catalog of not just plural stories, but stories of various unusual forms of embodiment/ensoulment, and I wanted a tag for when someone is discussing their own experience of that without forcing it under a "plural" label.

I also went through all the entries and added quotes from the source itself, so people get a little snippet of it! (With the exception of Romantic Illusions, I am going to have to go to the library for that one.)

My goal is to have a creator for every level of the alphabet. Only I, Q, U, and X remain. X is going to be a hard one! If Parasyte makes the grade, it'll knock off I.

x_x Plurgh!

Sneak: We got pleasantly surprised by Dreamwidth friends bringing us fancy chocolate! Thank you, friend! :D nomnomnom. There was a dark bar, a milk bar, and a pumpkin coconut pie chai bar. So good! We shared it with friend over dinner.

Sales went well! We will probably still run a loss this weekend, due to hotel costs, but we are having a good time!

We also bought some stuff:
  • Little Brain's Guide to Post-Concussion Syndrome, by B. Erin Cole.
  • The Santoro School's Handbook for Making Better Comics, by Frank Santoro and Kurt Ankeny. (Been meaning to grab this one for years; it's higher-level than Scott McCloud's books, going into limited color and geometry, panel rhythm and such. Not a book to start with.)
  • A Great Mouse Detective Sketch Zine, by Yeon Kyung (Charlotte) Cha.
  • A sticker by Esther Imas of a punk Santa Muerte (at least, I assume it's her judging by the bridal veil) wielding a torch and flicking someone off with the text TOO GOTH TO LIVE, TOO PUNK TO DIE
  • A one-pager about Moon Knight and DID for @pluralstories
See y'all tomorrow! Comments remain locked to access-list till Tuesday, when we return!
lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Sneak: I think me and Mori have agreed on a definition of what counts as "plural enough" for @pluralstories!

Later we will post these guidelines to pluralstories )
lb_lee: Sneak smiling (sneak)
Sneak: I found out that [personal profile] thedc has made an index of all their stories on Reddit, and Ronin Ellis and One Fox Faraday's horror serial The Book of Autonomancy has a multi protagonist! I know what I'll be reading for a while!

EDIT from Mori: Read all 24 chapters in one sitting even though it's now 2 AM. I can't remember the last time I read something on the Internet that I couldn't put down. Holy shit that was GREAT.
