A janky GIMP pen drawing of Mori shrugging. In her speech bubble is a post from Phosphor of Hungry Ghosts: "'that's like saying God should not treat his creations however he sees fit--' well, you see, if god was real I would simply kill him. skill issue."

A much sketchier drawing of Mori smirking dramatically, one hand to her chest, the other thrown out with a flame at one fingertip. She oversees a burning fire, and her speech bubble contains another Phosphor post: "maybe YOU can't kill god. but lbr. that's a you issue, my friend, not a me issue"

More ask meme, this time from [personal profile] cosmicspacekid!

Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?

We are completely incapable of watching anything while working. We know people who do it, and we are baffled. We can only concentrate on one thing at a time.

We do listen to music while working, but that's in large part to time our physical therapy breaks. Roughly every hour, we need to stop and do our stretches, which conveniently pans out to roughly one CD or tape's worth. We also have a bunch of homemade playlists of roughly that length. Music ends? Time to stretch.

(This is why things like Spotify are useless for us. We need the music to stop at regular intervals.)

Do you have any larger projects you’d like to pursue? Like comics, shortfilm, a series etc?

Sneak keeps saying ze wants to do an animation or a game. We'll see if ze ever gets to it.

But really, "large project" is relative, considering we've been working on Infinity Smashed for over twenty years, written what's probably a few thousand pages and a couple hundred stories and who knows how much art for it. We'll be making it till the day we die, and we are happy with that.

More ask meme answers, these from [personal profile] wolffyluna! (The meme's still ongoing if you want to ask us shit.)

Show your favourite drawing from this year.

Mori: Rogan can't show his, because it's the climactic page from Coming In or Staying Out, but he says he's very proud of drawing ball-squishing and jizz convincingly.

Me, if we use "this year" as to mean "within the past twelve months" I'm real proud of the stuff I did for Madgic. Here's one from the upcoming Madgic #4, where Biff and Rawlin first meet:

An inked drawing of gigantic Rawlin holding Biff up with one hand like a disobedient kitten. Biff, with a look of panic he's desperately trying to conceal with rage, flails and gives Rawlin the finger shrieking FUCK YOU! fuck you fuck you aaaah shit head out of towner go back to California fucker! Rawlin, supremely unimpressed, only responds, I don't have time for this. He looks haggard and tired from the big white seed in his chest.

I think I love it most because it sums up why I claimed Biff as my dudema. Realitybreaking giant runs you down like a dog in the street? Treat him like an out-of-towner who cut you off in traffic.

What inspires you?

Mori: I live in a world full of majesty and wonder and fucking cheeseburgers. How can I not be fucking inspired? Life is full of crazy weird shit! I am writing this on a plastic box that through science I don't understand can broadcast this text all over the globe. I am saying this as an imaginary friend who lives with a bunch of others in a headspace with a sentient ocean. On the table is a book of fragments of poems by Sappho, a poet who lived thousands of years ago and had no idea I would ever exist to read (parts of) her work! What's not to be inspired by???

How do you deal with artblock?

Rogan had this whole long poetic answer about how artblock is a bunch of different things with one name, but he ain't available right now, so my summary: we go do something else.

When we are lacking spoons for one thing, we look around for things we do have spoons for. (If we have zero spoons for ANYTHING at all, then we have bigger problems than our creative output.) For instance, some art requires pretty high creativity--like initial writing and penciling. Editing and inking require less creativity, but more focus. and attention to detail. Research requires very little creativity at all. Then there's what we call "donkey labor," which is a huge part of any job, artist included, but nobody much discusses it because it lacks pizzazz: digitizing old multi books. Checking citations and links. Bugsweeping our website. Donkey labor isn't fun to discuss at parties, but it rarely requires much in the way of creativity or smarts; you just gotta get it done. But it means there's usually SOMETHING we're able to do.

I feel like our job has forced us to learn how to swap between tasks as our ability and level of batshit waxes and wanes. Some people truly seem to want and be able to draw/write (the "fun" or "cool" stuff) all the time, eight hours a day, five days a week (or more). We cannot. But fortunately, there's a vast supply of donkey labor that always needs doing. And brain-blasted LB feels better knowing that the tedious work being done is work that Future LB will appreciate! (Always say thank you to the self that does the donkey labor.)

We also suspect that part of why our body is holding up surprisingly well despite years of this job is because we keep switching tasks and doing different things, allowing our body to move around and use different muscles.

From [personal profile] adore, for both art and writing!

Which artists inspire you right now?

Favourite works of all time excluding your own?

What do you like most about your own work?

What are you currently trying to improve?

Clarity and simplicity. How can I take whatever it is I'm doing (be it drawing, writing, whatever) and convey exactly what I want to convey with minimal clutter or distraction?

This can vary from "how can I make these two characters falling in love convincing in minimal wordcount?" to "how can I visually depict three  different apartments, with three panels and zero words, that on first glance are immediately, incontrovertibly worse than couch-surfing?" to "how can I describe a complicated mental health topic that's laden with a bunch of jargon, strip all that away, and explain clearly in everyday language?"

from [personal profile] minoanmiss:

10: What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistent hobby?

I mean, we switch between writing, drawing, and comics regularly, so I'm not sure you'd call it "consistent," but we just feel compelled to make things and share them. We find the process intrinsically enjoyable and challenging, plus it gets us paid! What's not to like?

20: What works have you drawn fanart of?

Oh, this one's hard; we do fanart very rarely. (It was actually a point of shame for us as kids!) If you subtract things we did as children or for pay/barter (such as our fanart/fic for [personal profile] erinptah's Leif and Thorn), the numbers are extremely low:

We have achieved our professional peak.

Also sorry still working on backlog and getting web working again.

Sneak: You might've noticed I totally gave up on the remaking of the Plural Code a while back. So many people had done it, I wasn't sure I really had anything better to offer. (House of Chimeras list four different ones, and that's not including the SB Code or the 2015 Plurality Resource Forum version.)

Then, much more recently, I learned about the 2018 Plural Spectrum Tool from the Plural Association!

We attempted to fill it out, but we had a really hard time. We have trouble plotting things on scales of ten, unless we have the scale written down for what exactly each number stands for. There were a couple criteria I just couldn't fill out, like pride. And I also wasn't sure exactly what some of the criteria meant. (Do they mean memory sharing for the vessel only? Or in-head or otherworld stuff too? Is stability a measure of distress or impairment? Does internal communication mean on-purpose, by accident, both? What's the difference between elaboration, co-consciousness, and memory sharing?)

Nevertheless, I got out my spiral, did my best to plot all the scales, and here's our result!
We did it wrong. :( What if I remade it? :D )
