This weekend was intense. But the listing for the paper version of Madgic #4 is up. $8 like the others.

Now to collapse and do nothing of importance for a bit.

EDIT: okay, I lied. Because there will likely be things needing taken care of, I decided to lurch ahead and upload the winners of this month's poll. And it was actually easier to just upload the ebook I made of EOZ for the Fitchburg Fandom Fest than it was to cut/paste and reformat it here.

So, with no further ado:

Embry, Olly, and Ziggy: my abortion story (by Rogan): This illustrated zine contains explicit violence, rape, incest, miscarriage, abortion and arguments thereof, teen pregnancy, disownment, hanging, a suicide attempt, and also consensual queer teenage sex. Reader discretion is advised. 16 pages. 2024. Alt-text built-in.

Boy Meats Girl: A zine about an abusive relationship, told overwhelmingly through collaged documents of the time: love letters, poetry, creative writing, photos, art, doctor's notes, etc. (The sole exceptions are written notes on the collaged pages, the Accord of 2004 strip, and the pages concerning the final confrontation.) As part of the process of making this zine, the originals were burned to create the final few pages. 32 pages, full color. Content Warnings: rape, vomit, strangulation, body horror, mental illness (specifically, PTSD and DID), headmate complicity in abuse, and endless whining. Script here.

Downloaded and read Boy Meats Girl. The use of collage gives the effect of weaving together/retracing memories, and multiple moments were also quite chilling. (Hope it's fine to discuss it as a creative work because I know it's also, like, your life.) The awkward, inarticulate writing from Jeff is quite a touch (that fucking poetry, man), in a way I'm currently too tired to explain. Something about like... the contrast between the banality of the mode of expression, and the gravity of what he's actually doing, you know-- it's a little bit surreal and definitely gross.

Rogan/Mori: THE POETRY IS SO FUCKIN BAD AND EVERY TIME WE REMEMBER IT WE QUIETLY SHRIEK INSIDE

Miranda: It's true, in some ways I felt I was taking pot shots with the poetry, but oh, was it satisfying to cut and paste it into that zine and then burn it! We'd been carrying the originals for fifteen years, because we kept thinking, "Oh, truly it couldn't have been SO bad, we must be making it worse than it was," and needing the originals to prove otherwise. It was very satisfying to exorcise it through flame.

Read both of these. Not quite sure what to write that would ... be appropriate. My usual "<3" = "I read this and liked/appreciated it but don't really have spoons to / know what to write" seems off. So, um, here. Here is this comment.
