Mori: Last night, for Biff's birthday (it was not, he hates TV, he hates sci-fi, he's very "we got weirdshit at home,") we watched the mysterious DVD of unknown provenance from the sci-fi library that nobody knew what to do with.

It seems to be a low-budget, possibly student or fan production of a ten minute chunk of an incomplete second episode of a show called Wayfarer 1. The (unviewable) full episode itself is called "Destination Home," the recorded chunk "The Message to Taylor."

We cannot tell you what exactly this show is about, because ten minutes of episode 2 is one of the worst ways to find out. There's a Matrix-y action chick industrial spy? There's scanners and phones in her very Matrix sunglasses? She gets a mysterious envelope by a guy in a very Firefly brown coat, and inside it is a thingy that transmits memories into her head maybe? And then she is on a spaceship in space and doesn't know why. There are guys there. The end.

The credits of the DVD say thank you to various sci-fi cons, and a (twenty-year-old) sticky note on the DVD box reads "Wanted: Test Audience Feedback needed and welcomed Please Enjoy!" so presumably the sci-fi library got this as a review copy at one of the local SF cons.

This is POSSIBLY a fan crossover show between the Matrix (which clearly inspires a lot of the aesthetic) and Star Trek fan audio drama Star Trek: Defiant (which goes back to 1995), because apparently the USS Wayfarer was a ship in that audio drama, and there's a bit of Star Trek flavor as well? But we aren't familiar enough with it (or have enough material) to know. Maybe it's an original work.

Googling this thing is hard; there's no website, only a defunct email address (LightHouseART2005@yahoo.com), three dead end production studio(?) names (Kuro Reign Creations, Moonchild, and Yah!Dude,Inc.), and the names of the four actors: Katherine Ryan, Alx Cruz (who looks to still be around, he posts cute baby photos on Instagram), TonyYah!Dude (whose defunct Deviantart we found), and Richard Savage.

We also have zero desire to keep this DVD. But what a mysterious, odd little relic. No clue what the rest of Wayfarer 1 became, or if episode 2 even got completed.

...does anyone want this? It is wasted on us.

That sounds intensely weird. Maybe the [community profile] fictional_fans would have a member who knows about it and would like a copy?
