Art Dump: PIN sketches

Since I've been rewriting Red Roses, Old Horses, I decided to do proper reference sketches for the cast.  Y'all know what that means: ART DUMP!


Comboy Bob Doshi.  He's changed not at all since 2005, though I discovered last month that there is a real-life real estate guy named Vijay Doshi who is a DEAD RINGER for Bob in the face. (Not the body though; he's not fat enough.) That was convenient!


Specialist Grey, who has a terrible case of resting serial killer face and would speak in nothing but ten-code and SGSL if he could get away with it.  Nobody but Bob calls him by his first name.


Specialist Ebony Larkin and Doc Taneesha Pritchard.  They're PIN girlfriends, because by god if Ebony is stuck in her shitty job she damn well gets a happy relationship with her tiny girlfriend watching trashy TV and having bubble baths.  I still haven't figured out Taneesha's hair. (Her original 2004 design was yoinked for Jenny.) Since this story takes place on Valentine's Day 2002, iPods are the hottest new thing and Taneesha adores hers. (Bob is jealous, but REALLY hates Apple.  He's one of those guys who feels like if he can't take it apart and redo it himself, he doesn't really own it.)

Taneesha works the second shift (2 PM to midnight).  Larkin works whatever anyone puts her on.  They have a whole lot of kisses as one comes home and the other goes out and rarely encounter each other at work.


Comboy Jenny, AKA Mac's ex-girlfriend.  Sorry, Jenny, you have a bad time in that story.

Red Roses, Old Horses is hands-down my favourite of your works. Now, we can debate whether that's because the rest of Infinity Smashed mostly competes with itself in awesomeness or not so I can't choose a favourite from there, but ... meh. Tbh, that's kinda irrelevant.

Any more Bob and Grey would be AMAZING and I would absolutely adore it if you shared (if/when it is ready and you are comfortable to do so). <3

Thanks! Red Roses, Old Horses is one spin-off story of this big sprawling series, Infinity Smashed that's the art equivalent of that car you keep in the yard and tinker with forever.

The non-spin-off is mostly about teenagers trying to deal with the aftermath of their "glorious adventure" that's such a staple of children's or YA speculative fiction. The PIN stories follow the Men In Black of that universe, (the antagonists in the main story), watching their already-dubious jobs cross the moral event horizon in response to 9/11.

Believe it or not, Bob's visual design drew a LOT from a character from a queer furry webcomic I was really into in high school--Carpe Diem.
