We were at the nearby Indian grocery store to stock up on yogurt (only they sell it in the giant quantities we require), when Biff noticed something new: enormous Ziploc bags filled with clearly-homemade momo (Nepalese dumplings). There are a few momo joints around here; maybe it's some sort of mysterious shadow kitchen thing?

Anyway, there were tons of these big gallon-size Ziploc bags, crammed full and tersely labeled in Sharpie as to their contents: (halal) BEEF, (halal) CHICKEN, and... VAG (veg).

It's Pride. We bought the VAG MOMO.

And guys, they were delicious. So flavorful! Cabbage, carrot, (probably?) chickpeas, onion, cilantro (we think), herbs and spices. We've bought bags of potstickers from the (southeast) Asian groceries around town, and they tended to be pretty bland. Nice, but bland, so we took to cooking them with sauces to flavor them up. But these? These packed all the flavor they needed. More support for the "ghost kitchen" idea.

They were expensive ($32), but they were so worth it. That bag will last us a long time; we spent half the bag feeding us and two roommates tonight, and we had leftovers, so that's an easy six meals' worth in one bag, a good treat item. And if I'm going to shell out for food, I'm happy to be giving it to my local Indian grocery and this mysterious momo chef!

Wife: Haha. Vag Momo

I am so envious of your local momo availability. Our first time having momo was from a surprise frozen bag from Aldis, and they were super tasty. They haven't reappeared since, and they aren't available in any of the local international markets.

The Nepali cooking gods have smiled upon you.

Do love momo. Need to go back to the Gurkha restaurant...

Thanks! We've gone to a place called Apna Bazaar in Stoneham, I had no idea there was a Desi grocery so close by!

The Costco sells Large Indian Yogurt containers (80oz) for something like $6-7.

Thank you for the momo rec. I picked up the chicken momo on my way home from work and cooked some for gingicat and our kid tonight. Big hit! Wish I could do a deep fry like the place in Arlington but still quite good.

Transportation to Costco could be arranged sometime, if you want. They also have low prices on eggs.

Even though they were unlabeled Ziplocs, I have the suspicion they’ll be keeping them in stock. I’d have to ask if the others have cilantro in them — I’m a soap-taster.

yay foodstuffs

I was told "momo" is also japanese for "Peach".

...so while I'm not saying "vag momo" is sort of adjacent to saying "ballz eggplant" or something... but I mean, i'm also not Not saying that.

Oooh, there's nothing quite like a good momo. One of my vices is going to the local momo joint; there's nothing quite like a plate of hot momos on a cold day.

And hooray for big bags of momos easily bought from stores!

(And while they are not as good as vag momos, imo veg momos are better than the meat ones anyway.)
