Mori/Miranda: We are in the middle of moving and not here for the nonce, so quick stuffdump:

Some gracious soul has dumped a massive pile of music from porn movies of the '60s and '70s. Quality not guaranteed, but some of it is shockingly good or by famous people (including the drummer for Aretha Franklin, who did the first Black Power porno, Lialeh, back in the '70s, and the dudes from ABBA, who apparently have a way more interesting musical career than we knew). We now have on our hard drive the immortal classic "Take Your Nose Out of My Panty House." (It is not one of the shockingly good ones. We love it.)
@who-is-page got us hooked on the gigantic 700+ page tome, A Communion of Subjects: Animals in Religion, Science, and Ethics. It's really good, roughly fifty essays from wildly divergent fields on the theme of, "the world is a communion of subjects, not a collection of objects to treat however we want." Essay topics include: the role of mice in ancient Roman prophecy, philosophies of animal (and human) sacrifice, how Descartes was a jerk and ruined things for everyone, cross-cultural comparisons of ravens in prophecy across Asia and the Pacific Northwest of North America, a medieval Muslim text where animals argue for their rights to the king of the djinn... There's a lot. The book is huge, but each essay is pretty short and surprisingly readable. There's a bit about spirit possession and mediumship in the Salish winter dance I want to quote and post here when I'm not in the middle of converting my life into cardboard cubes.

Miranda got her hands on a DVD box set of the sappy old Linda Hamilton Ron Perlman show, Beauty and the Beast, and she is happy as a pig in Congress. It was written by George R. R. Martin; he cameos in the second episode as a guy getting hassled on a subway train. Having packed all our books, she's binge-watching it with Mac (who loves Linda Hamilton).
Similarly, an old gay Fanfiction.net version of that fairy tale, called Brendan and the Beast, has after twenty years not only been finished, but self-published and gotten a paperback release. Miranda is pumped and circling it like a vulture awaiting a carcass, because we aren't buying much till we're done moving. Mir was into that thing in high school, back before it got finished. It took ten years to complete, then another ten before its current release. Anyone that determined to carry through has long since earned our twenty bucks.
Our moving front team has been me (Mori), Biff, and Miranda, with Sneak regularly dipping in and out like ze does. Biff and Mir are organizing champs; I'm just here to supply the muscle and take orders.
Finally, someone is unloading a mondo collection of cool queer zines, books, and alt-press comics on Ebay. We cannot buy any of it, because cardboard cubes, but maybe y'all want in on that!
