Y'all know how this goes. New headmates = flailing sketches so I can draw them properly. (Because there was a period of roughly a month or two where I couldn't draw Biff for the life of me and that was quite the hindrance while making a diary comic.)

Quick pen sketches getting Bob and Grey's body shapes down. Grey is still towering tall, but he's lost weight and isn't the oak slab he used to be, has age spots on his scalp and arms, and has an expression of calm. Bob has also lost weight the hard way, which combined with him only being 5'7 means he looks small and frail next to Grey. Still has padding at the gut and thighs though. His hair is shorter, but he still has all of it. He wears a geeky calculator watch and a gold ring from some comp sci academic society on his right hand.
Bob was always a smidge shorter than me, but it's only now that it sinks in no, he's SMALLER than me now.  It's weird; his personality always made him seem bigger.  Now both him and Grey are frailer. (Also I just realized that Bob, who normally will jump on the newest shinies, has been wearing a hideous retro Casio calculator watch this whole time.  I guess he isn't immune to nostalgia.)

Grey carries a pocket notebook and pencil around with him everywhere and refuses to wear reading glasses, even though I have it on good authority that he needs them.

Pen sketch of Bob smirking over his glasses and saying, Draw me like one of your French girls.

Pen sketch of Bob fidgeting with his glasses as he looks at something with delighted interest.
I suspect I'll be drawing him doing this gesture a LOT.

Bob fidgeting with his glasses again, this time with a look of supreme discomfort.
Like I said.

Digital sketch of Grey looking startled, with deep blue lines on pink background because pft.
Why are you so hard to draw, Grey.  Why are you like this.  You emote, I've seen you do it, why are you so much harder to draw than Bob?  You're worse than Gigi.

More blue ink on pink background sketch, this time of Grey smiling and looking happy.
Better.

Colored sketch of Bob feeding Grey cheesecake.
Skin tone tests because color is still the bane of my existence.  Bleh.

Colored sketch of Grey nuzzling Bob. They're both happy and smiling.
Better.

And now to go stretch my shoulder and also get out of the light because wow that sure is a migraine.

Yea thats not very helpful

our typical strategy for finding references of sorts of people we want to draw is to google something like "60 year old woman" or "elderly couple" and poke around at image results until we find some things fitting (and another trick we do is if we need references of Japanese people, to do the search in Japanese, since the bias of English language results is overwhelmingly white), or we might think of specific people like ian mckellen and use them as a reference (typically multiple people)

but your thing of studying irl people directly sound like the best option! wish we had that hehe
