AAAAAAAAAARRRRRTTTTT! Because I finished all the required illustrations, which means anymore after this are optional and for fun! Huzzah!

concept sketches of wardrobes for Raige, Thomas, and M.D. Raige's fashion sense changes not at all--he's all about geeky T-shirts with Nintendo or Latin competition sayings on them, and blue jeans that don't fit. Instead, I focus on getting his marching band uniform and drum harness right. Thomas code-switches between gangsta--baggy shorts, tank tops, exposed boxers--preppy Lacoste boy, and work outfits--he's done up as a waiter in one of them. M.D. wears work clothes--jumpsuits, overalls, galoshes, work boots, gloves, and at best, cut-off shorts and T-shirts with terrible random things on them, like commemorations of random stupid events from the 80s.
Realized I needed to get off my ass and work on folks' clothes, since Book 4 starts two years after the start of Book 1, and covers a two-year span of time. People's clothing changes!

Well, except Raige, who is a blandcore nerd. At least Biff has the excuse of being broke and older. But Thomas is loving his ability to wear whatever ridiculous thing is in fashion, and M.D. has gone from Salvation army reject to country vet farmer.

Shirtless Thomas dousing him down with a garden hose in a suggestive fashion and ridiculously baggy 2004-era shorts.
Remember those super-baggy shorts from the turn of the millenium? Yeah, that's ONE fashion pendulum I wasn't too sorry to see swing. But Thomas has no shame; come 2019 he's probably digging through his high school photos and going, "Haha, yeah, I was great back then."

This was the one I was working on at the comics meeting and my next-door seat-neighbor was kinda looking over my shoulder and snickering. Look, buddy, I've bonded with subway tough guys over my determination to draw dicks; you should consider yourself lucky.

inked illustration of Biff in a compression vest, braiding M.D.'s hair while she fidgets and blathers on. He has a ponytailer holder in his mouth, while she's all dressed in her jumpsuit, gloves, and turtleneck for her healer ceremony.

M.D. getting ready for her junior healer ceremony. Biff does her hair because it's that or feed her and she is way too anxious to eat anything.

M.D. and Thomas attempt to kiss, only for M.D. to recoil with a face like a toddler given lima beans the first time. Thomas is just looking away and laughing embarrassedly.
Thomas and M.D. never spoke of this again. And I think this is one of the very few times Thomas ever got anything close to flustered or embarrassed. He has a very vested interest in playing Casanova, and the idea that he could have this horribly awkward failed kiss with someone he's known for years would probably shake him up a bit.

inked illustration of Raige and Thomas smooching.
It's okay, Thomas. You've still got it.

Inked illustration of the crew at a really dorky prom thing. Raige and Thomas are grinning and slow-dancing in front of a terrible tinfoil rocket ship with Christmas lights, paper UFOs and planets, while M.D. gives a thumbs-up and stuffs her face.
PROMMMM.

An inked illustration of Raige's mom, a bony freckled woman with thick brown hair, playing fiddle like a madman while smirking and looking flirty at George, who has a terrible early 80s mullet and looks on with adoration.
Raige's mom and dad, long before he arrived on the scene.

Lily was never a rock star or anything, but she had (and still has) a small but UTTERLY BANANAS following. She did fiddle, piano, and vocals, and was most known for her intense live performances; true Lily fans agree that her studio recordings just aren't the same. Unfortunately for everyone involved, the tour circuit was NOT good for her health.

George didn't know jack about fiddles, pianos, or music, but he freakin' ADORED Lily.Inked illustration of an angry Thomas being held and comforted by Raige and M.D., all with bedheads.
Thomas getting comforted after his family house gets tagged by jerks.

inked illustration of M.D. holding up a pump-bottle of testosterone, labelled Mangoo, with a grin like Satan's insurance salesman. Biff is wrapped in bandages, gore-grenades, and is slumped in a recliner with a grumpy face.
Let me tell you, I have never been so glad that I took reference sketches and photos of my bandage set-up after surgery. THANK YOU 2011-ERA ME. Also, Biff shifts his vanish according to his mood and company, which is how I'm getting around having to redraw his grumpy ass with any sort of continuity. He reflexively lurches into full-on whiteboy mode whenever Raige or Thomas is around, or when he feels really bad.

Inked illustration of Biff in a cheap but neat trailer house with his sister, who has fluffy dark curly hair and appears to be freaking out and trying to hide it as she tries to lite a cigarette. Biff works with a blender and looks away, out the window, where a tiny M.D. in a tree is trying to get his attention and nonverbally ask if everything's okay.
...and then you have times like here, where he's trying very, VERY hard not to have any vanish on, for his sister's sake, since she never knew about that. The only way Biff knows how to express his care for someone is to feed them, and his sister is trying to keep herself from having a complete and total meltdown over seeing her older sibling after he disappeared a decade-plus prior with no word of explanation.

Inked ilustration of M.D., Thomas, and Raige by the subway railing. M.D. and Raige are trying to invite Thomas into the relationship while having enough social awkwardness to sink five. Thomas is looking suspiciously at them as he eats his ice cream.
Raige and M.D. are very, very bad at flirting with people.

Raige, Thomas, and M.D. soak in a hot spring while M.D. blows bubbles. They all look happy and comfortable.
Raige turns nineteen, and finally gets to celebrate. It goes wrong but hey, it ends with hot springs and bubbles, which isn't so bad.

Inked illustration of Thomas being group-hugged by his family after coming out. His mother has a bun, a police uniform, and a worried but loving expression. His father is dressed like a homebody, and he's grinning, while Marcus, a big bear of a brother, seems to be laughing. Even Christopher is smiling, however uncertainly.Thomas has the best family. His mom is at the top left, his dad at the bottom left, his big brother Marcus top right, and his little brother Christopher at bottom right.

Inked illustration of M.D., Thomas, and Raige all cuddled together in bed. Raige and Thomas wear boxer shorts and undershirts; M.D. wears a full sweatsuit, with the cuffs tucked into gloves and thick socks. They are cozy, sleeping, and happy.
Raige and Thomas dress like normal humans accustomed to a warm climate. M.D. sleeps like she plans to sleep-walk through icy fields and harvest turnips.

inked illustration of M.D. and One. One is beaten half to hell, disheveled, and tied at arms and ankles, and has a cagey expression. M.D. is sitting on a tree stump, knife in hand, posture rigid and face blank.
In the book, the illustration will be broken in half, with One and M.D. on facing pages.

M.D. has learned to be careful, even if her sister is beat up, tied up, and exhausted. One in the meantime is just trying to figure out how she can spin this to her benefit.

A black and white ink wash illustration of Raige and Thomas making out in the back of Thomas's ancient truck, surrounded by stars, desert, and mountains.
Raige and Thomas having fun after prom. Thanks to silvercat17's dad's pick-up truck for being a dead ringer for Thomas's. I took so many reference photos.
