Lesson learned: if you are trapped in an undead zoo filled with vampires, hide in a corridor with your ring of fire resistance, write Elbereth, and wait for the local dragon to DESTROY EVERYTHING THAT PURSUES YOU.  That sucker will clear a room and leave a trail of vampire corpses. (My mother always taught me xans were the worst monster that ever was.  I disagree; I believe it is the vampires, because they suck away your experience levels permanently and give nothing back.  At least the xans don't do you permanent damage.)

Alas, I lost my loyal dogs, who I'd in turn tamed after the loss of my original dog.  R.I.P., Friendly, Friendly Jr., Friendly III, and Friendly IV.
