Sneak: For our local friends, please let folks know that Somerville is doing participatory budgeting! Any resident age 12 and over can participate, and they're taking suggestions until November 20th! You can see a list of people's suggestions here; there's a lot of repeats, and you can boost things you would love to have! (Or add a suggestion of your own if it's not on there already!) Lots of suggestions for curb cuts, ramps, water fountains, public bathrooms, and a municipal composting program! ^_^

Some other neat/unusual suggestions people made:

SWAP SHED: "If citizens had a place to donate home goods (working electronics/appliances, furniture, kitchen wares, rugs, curtains, etc), it would keep these items out of the landfill and allow easy recycling of usable items. People may drop off items and take items home as needed. My hometown of Marblehead, MA has one, and I furnished my first apartment from donations! Who cares if the silverware and plates were mismatched!" [This had one of the highest boost rates we've seen on it, and we agree, it sounds like a great idea!]

COMMUNITY WHISTLING: "Let's cultivate unity, delight and solidarity throughout the community through Collective Whistling. Imagine an invigorating shiver of inspiration running down your spine as you listen to a chorus of neighbors chirping in unison to Sweet Sweet Caroline. That is how this idea will improve Somerville." [Oh nooooo.]

RENAME DILBOY FIELD: "It sounds too dirty. It should be renamed something family friendly." [Wat. No. Why does this have so many boosts, quit trollin.]

EGGERY AKA EGG EMPORIUM: "Eggs are a very nutritious and affordable meal. Why not create a centralized location for selling fair priced eggs? Invite the local farms to offer their own eggs, and over time we may add in house chickens, ducks, or quails (depending on the citizens' tastes)." [[personal profile] hungryghosts, did you write this?]

AN INVENTORY OF ALL EXISTING BARNS IN SOMERVILLE: "An appreciation of what still exists from a former time but mostly remains hidden from contemporary life." [We are kinda baffled by you, person who suggested this, but we appreciate your devotion to the cause of barn.]
