Sketchdump: Wings

Rogan: For [personal profile] gingicat ! I realized that I... didn't really post the massive amounts of sketches I made of my wings after they grew in. Probably because I was still hoping they'd magically vanish, and also there's always the multi fear that if too many weird things happen to you, you become The Bad Attention-Seeker. But it's been six months now, they haven't gone away, fuck that stupid Bad Multi shit, so I guess I'll just have to start putting them in comics now.

Back in January, before they'd reached full size. The right one is the only one that folds this way; the left one's gimpy and doesn't bend right.

Back in January, when Rogan's wings were smaller, him holding himself up in a push-up position by his wings alone.
This was back in January, when they were a bit smaller. Propping myself up on them wasn't too hard, but it wasn't until the past few days that I could walk at all on them without face-planting. (And it's generally not worth doing.)

Top view. The gimpy left one has more scars on it that I just didn't draw. Also, witness my one failed attempt at flying in headspace. This body wasn't made for flying.

New scars as of a couple months ago. Old news; there are now more, because 2021 is the memory work body horror year for me.

Sketches of Rogan indignantly wrapping himself in his wings like a burrito and going HMPH in various positions--sitting, lying down, leaning against Mac who asks, "do you want to talk about it?" Also a random doodle of Biff in athletic shorts.
Indignant Roburritos. Now I know why Batman wraps himself in a cloak all the time; it's comforting AND sulky. None of these sketches were a success, though; my wings don't actually bend quite this way.

At first, I tried to just... pretend I could keep wearing the jeans and flannel I've always worn, but eventually I had to accept that it wasn't comfortable and start adapting my clothes. Now I know why winged people in art don't have the flaps going down their back; they make tailoring awful.

Pen sketches from June. Rogan's wings have now grown to be longer than his normal arms, so the elbows now hang under his normal ones when he folds them forward and across his chest. He still does the wing toga thing, but uses reinforced grippy straps or overalls clasps to give his grabby claws somewhere to grab that isn't his flesh (they're pointy!). He can bear crawl on his wings, but it's an awkward, goofy-looking progress; climbing is much easier and better. His wing arms have short fuzz the color of his hair, and the membranes are soft and velvety and roughly the color of his skin tone. He can hug with them, which feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket made of skin. Mac has put epaulets on his clothes so Rogan can hold his hand AND have a wing around his shoulders at the same time.
And now here we are in July when they seem to have hit full size.

Scaled-up version of one of the doodles just because I think it's funny. (Even though Bob usually doesn't react that strongly.)

Based on the drawings, you are still thinking of them as *attached* to you rather than part of you.

Yeah, that's accurate. I still don't know why I have them, and I'm still not used to them really. They feel like grafted extras, and I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

It is! Sneak is into that fashion design stuff, but I am very boring in my clothing tastes and don't have that imagination, so I'm just annoyed, haha.

I can't lie, I do at times enjoy burritoing myself, and being able to do so with my own anatomy. Between that and the hugs, I suppose these extras are worth it.

It's true! I'd rather have bat wings than bird ones, even if I lack the confidence to run around shirtless in a loincloth all day.

While I personally do not own wings I am all too familiar with characters that possess wings and how difficult is to work with membrane that blocks the back. Clearly, for winter you may need to consider capes and ponchos.

Yeah, I'll be wearing a lot of ponchos for sure. (Though they still irritatingly get in the way of my wings' movement. I guess there's always wing socks strapped to a harness around my torso...)
