NOT pluralstories: Under My Skin, by Jaye Maiman

Mori: I been still reading my lesbian mystery novels, and I found one that doesn't qualify for [community profile] pluralstories  but it's worth mentioning here, because a major part of it is singlet memory work: Under My Skin, by Jaye Maiman. (This book is the third in a series, but like many mysteries, you can jump in wherever. I had no trouble keeping track of stuff.)

The workaholic detective in question is trying to get a vacation in a cabin out in upstate New York, but of course, a fellow lesbian ends up dead. She finds herself drawn into the investigation, which nobody in power is taking seriously, only to discover things go deeper than she thought. At the same time, she's struggling to keep her mental footing as she falls for a Southern chef while memories from their messed-up childhoods bubble up.

It's probably one of the most realistic depictions I've seen in fiction of getting triggered and various forms of flashbacks, which makes it REALLY uncomfortable to read (and leads the main character to do things that are understandable but frustrating). It was an enjoyable enough mystery for me, though the ending was kinda meh for me. But I wanted to bring it up here so it doesn't just get forgotten! There's a bootleg ebook of it on LibraryGenesis, since it's long out of print. (You can probably find used copies floating around though.)
