Disney Wienies

Mori: I'm reading John Hench's Designing Disney: Imagineering and the art of the Show. Thus far, it's mostly hype-committeed within an inch of its life, but then I found the following subchapter heading on page 50:

The Beckoning Hand: The Wienie

Walt [Disney] observed that people move toward things that are inviting, and he coined the term wienie to refer to such things (Walt had a lifelong love of hot dogs).

Well, Mr. Hench, you got me. I was indeed magnetically drawn to read further by your use of a wienie. Your thesis is proved, you old fox.
Imagineers have found that people respond to a wienie at the end of a corridor because it beckons them to continue further in their journey.

Oh no.
We often use archetypal forms in designing a wienie

Oh nooooo.
The wienie promises that you will be rewarded for the time and effort it takes to walk down that corridor. A well-designed wienie can brighten and energize an entire area. The Matterhorn at Disneyland, the Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Big Tillie, the stranded ship at Typhoon lagoon, are all effective wienies

Please, Mr. Hench, no more. Mercy.
We created a number of successful wienies at Disneyland, each of which posed special design challenges.

I may never breathe again.
The movement of the merry-go-round is itself a wienie--a wienie within a wienie--and promises that something enticing is happening in Fantasyland.

This is a sentence I read in a book about Disney by one of the most famous, long-term designers ever employed by them. Hench's cowriter, Peggy Van Pelt, let this happen. Some editor, probably a whole phalanx of them knowing Disney, read the term "wienie within a wienie," said, "sure, that sounds good," and approved it.

I can only imagine they did it on purpose.

Finally, a place where Freud and Jung can shake hands. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar? Well, sometimes an archetypal beacon stirring ancestral memories deep within the cultural psyche is just a lil' ol wienie.

I should print this and send it to Bethel. >:) Lol thank you for sharing this!

I tried finding a Walt Disney x Hot Dogs thing for you, but this is what the search engine could give me.

My favourite girl scout camp song:

I know a weiner man,
he owns a weiner van,
he can cook anything from hot dogs on down
One day I'll join his life
~*~I'll be his weiner wife~*~
Hot dog I love that weiner man
(WEI-NER!)

And yes, I will sing this for anyone anytime at very little provocation!
