Cover for Madgic so far!



Printed test draft today. It's 52 pages, covering topics from coercive belief modification to body anchoring and learning to communicate with a wonky brain using cultural detritus, obscure brain symbology, and shitty Piers Anthony novels. Also many drawings of our brain as a goofy cartoon whale who only speaks in pictograms.

Planning to have it out next week for MICE. We'll see if people like it! Magic seems to be in now, but I wasn't finding what I wanted, and finally I realized I needed to just make a stupid perzine about magic and religion, including the useful stuff I've found.

Oh, that's really nice. 10/10 aesthetic, the symbolism is fascinating even tho I don't know yours well enough to read it, and the technique is so nice.

That's gonna be SO nice when it's all finished.

Mori: It's roughly based on tattoos we've gotten in the past and hope to get in the future. I got the texture effect by tracing my hand on paper, scanning that outline, and then doing some snipping and weird bucket-fill and magic-wand tricks in GIMP. I originally was thinking of doing the hand solid black, but I might keep the texturing since it came out so funky.

I'm impressed by anyone who can work magic like that with GIMP. (And <3 tattoos)

I remember when people here used that program... though they also didn't try very hard to learn all of it.

I think it would look good either way. :) But, I'm digging the texture it has. It reminds me of paper and watercolors and echoes of patterns.

Mori: Rogan credits GIMP with a portion of why our shoulder is so shit; for years it was our primary art program, and while we got pretty okay with it, and still use it for clean-up, it is DEFINITELY not ideal for the lineart we usually do. I only got the weird texture effect because I was too lazy to plug in my tablet and so tried to noodle around it using mouse, got that weird texturey effect and went, "Heyyyy, I like that! What if I tried to do it again, but better?" And then I did the white sigil in CSP because friends don't let friends draw lineart in GIMP.
