Sneak: Do you mean a reference that the "system is only used by fakes" claim existed, the specific date range it existed, or that the claim itself is not true?
We mostly encountered the opposite side of that urban legend, the "system is a medical-only word, MPD/DID only!" version, and that was a claim we only encountered on tumblr ourself. I never encountered the No True Scotsman version of "no true multiple uses the term system," and it would be much easier to disprove, since there were plenty of old Livejournal plurals with "system" in their screen-names from before 2012. Where did you first hear it? Maybe it happened in places we weren't.
