Our general opinion on DNIs is that you're entirely allowed to bar access to your personal space to anyone for any reason, no matter how small, and that DNIs in theory can help people avoid the holy war (to quote a friend). That being said, an awful lot of DNIs seem less about maintaining your own boundaries and more like... proving that you are a Good and Upright Citizen who believes the Right things and has separated themselves from the Sinful Masses. :/
(We ourselves do have a soft DNI of a type, but it's worded more in the sense of "heads up, this is who we are and this is the content we're into! we're not going to scope out everyone who follows us for their opinions but please keep in mind that if you find this facet of our interests/identities disagreeable you might be better off moving along.")
