It might be one or more of those things? I know that the closer anyone in my system is to front, the less they remember things that happen in headspace. Although we don't really believe in system hopping, we did at one time, and 'so-and-so wouldn't remember it' is an entirely plausible thing. (Still, if someone else is telling that to you, that's a big glowing red sign to run far away and never ever look back.)
