That is a very good way of putting it. Apparently the term was coined in
the late 80s by Audre Lord (or so I've heard), mostly to describe
surviving as an activist without burning out or martyring herself to
death, and I imagine she would not be pleased to see how that's been
turned into just another product to sell.
Thanks much for your input! I admit that I was mostly thinking of it from
a US context and having a different cultural framework is really super.
And it's interesting too, since I see pleasure as... part of it, but not
the majority or all of self-care. (For instance, go figure, eating food I
actually found tasty made beating my ED easier! Though it took me ages to
get over my fear of eating meat again.)
