Pluralstories to-read (or -watch, whatever)

We want to keep[community profile] pluralstories  uncluttered, so here is the to-do list of media to go through (and reminders of stuff I went through and tossed, to prevent redoes).

Amorpha. A Case of Spirits, Part One: Sorrel and her system, recently escaped from an asylum and desperate for money, pose as a medium helping a charlatan conduct fraudulent channelings -- until the day when someone inexplicable appears in their head.  Written by [personal profile] lithophiles , prompted by [personal profile] sinistmer

Barrette, Elizabeth. Polychrome Heroics. (2013-present). Serial poetry. Maisie Walker was an ordinary college student until she was kidnapped by a telepathic supervillain. Under the onslaught of telepathic assault, Maisie became a multiple system, who developed into a superhero called Damask.

Brin, David. Kiln People. (2002). Sci-fi prose. In a perilous future where disposable duplicate bodies fulfill every legal and illicit whim of their decadent masters, life is cheap. No one knows that better than Albert Morris, a brash investigator with a knack for trouble, who has sent his own duplicates into deadly peril more times than he cares to remember. But when Morris takes on a ring of bootleggers making illegal copies of a famous actress, he stumbles upon a secret so explosive it has incited open warfare on the streets of Dittotown. (Didn't make the cut; the one explicitly multiple character is a 2D villain.)

Caballero, Vander. Papo & Yo. (2012). Fantasy video game. A young Brazilian boy, Quico, while taking refuge from his abusive father, finds himself whisked away into a fantastical favela and a usually-docile creature, Monster. Psychodrama ensues.

Emezi, Akwaeke. Dear Senthuran: A Black Spirit Memoir. (2021).

Fesmire, Jonathan. Children of Rhatlan. (2015). Duals are twins who share the same space in reality, each with their own mind and body, but only one can be manifest at a time. Their connection makes them function a lot like multiples.

Hardinge, Frances. A Skinful of Shadows. Sometimes, when a person dies, their spirit goes looking for somewhere to hide. Some people have space within them, perfect for hiding. Young Makepeace has learned to defend herself from the ghosts that try to possess her in the night, desperate for refuge, but one day a dreadful event causes her to drop her guard. And now there’s a spirit inside her. I have been promised a bear headmate.

Hines, Jim. Libriomancer. (2012). Isaac is a present librarian and a past libriomancer, able to draw objects (and his pet fire spider, Smudge) from the pages of books. When a conspiracy starts taking out wizards in America, he joins forces with Lena, a dryad fictioneer, to get to the bottom of things. (Didn't make the cut; the explicitly multi character is a 2D villain possessed by literary villains.)

Hoffman, Nina Kiriki. A Fistful Of Sky. (2002). A misfit in a family of spellcasters, Gypsum LaZelle possesses no magical ability whatsover. Intelligent, resourceful and caring, Gyp deals with her lack of magic by growing into a self-effacing, low-profile but still greatly beloved member of the family. Then suddenly at age 20, she attains her gift, the "unkind" power of curses.

Keane, Arrow. I Call Myself Coca Joe. (2016) Spunky, funny Coca Joe Stratmore knows the safest place to be is away from the house and in the Montana badlands with her only real family, her loyal collie, Chief. When Chief goes missing, Coca Joe embarks on a dangerous search.  Her drive to find her beloved Chief attracts unexpected help from hobos and a band of Lakota Indians.  They find more than anyone bargained for.

McCaughrean, Geraldine. The White Darkness. (2005). Antarctic explorer Captain Oates has been dead for nearly a century, but not in Sym's head. In there, he is her constant companion, her soul mate, her advisor. When Sym's uncle takes her on a dream trip into the Antarctic, it turns into a nightmarish struggle for survival that will challenge everything she knows and loves. (Very, very appropriate, but couldn't get through it. The villain just spooked me too much!)

Olivier, Edith. The Love Child. (1927). “At thirty-two, her mother dead, Agatha Bodenham finds herself quite alone. She summons back to life the only friend she ever knew, Clarissa, the dream companion of her childhood. At first Clarissa comes by night, and then by day, gathering substance in the warmth of Agatha’s obsessive love until it seems that others too can see her. See, but not touch, for Agatha had made her love child for herself alone. No man may approach her elfin creation of perfect beauty. If he does, the love with summoned her can spirit her away…”

Meeting New Friends on the Road: Justin and Sam started a relationship a few months ago, but Sam's never met any of Justin's headmates until an eventful and educational post-grad road trip.  Written by [personal profile] starfallhaven , prompted by [personal profile] sinistmer
