I did think that first comic you showed reminded me of Dissociation!

Really cool stuff. I haven't thought about it much but now that you point it out, it's everywhere and very intuitive. Even in Hikaru no Go, the illustrations easily clarify that Sai is not physically present but he's always there by his side, and there's no confusion with readers about that. It's how I experience my headmates as well.
