Well, I wanted to try and write alpha men in a way that was more cheesy and fun than terrifying, so I decided that they should be total peacocks in codpieces. During mating season, everyone is trying to show how bangable they are, which involves a lot of ritualized expressions and challenges of dominance. But nobody really wants to get hurt, because that impairs bangability.
Different cultures and subcultures express this in different ways, but for certain alpha bros, the ritual of choice is flex-offs (with the pretense of fighting, but really, it's an excuse to flex and rip their very tight shirts). And during mating season, most people get a bit slaphappy and start doing their thing in inappropriate contexts... like the middle of traffic.
