We met Harvey Rosenthal a couple years ago (not the Wikipedia Harvey Rosenthal. This Harvey Rosenthal http://brsstacs.center4si.com/Harvey_Rosenthal-bio.pdf) and said we wanted to "be him" when we grew up. He said "No you don't." LOL — we were hoping at least to get "Why?" lol
I guess it was a little hypocritical. But if he asked why we would have said we were eyeballing his position in NYAPRS (NY association of psychiatric rehabilitation services — a big-ish grassroots activist agency in NYS) and wondering whether we could get an entry level position there to worm our way to being executive director. A moment of someone in here being inspired at least.
But you know, I don't. I don't want to have to keep fighting for this stuff. I want it over.
But I don't get the magic wand to make that happen. So I keep fighting. And no one wants to be us. No one wants this to go on another 34 years (our tenure as an out plural activist making tiny waves) just like we don't want it to go on for another 40 (Harvey's tenure fighting the Psych establishment making bigger waves). And we have our own psych issues if he thought we envied that. LOL
So we don't want to be Harvey. And no one ought to envy us. Let's keep pushing boulders uphill. The hill/mountain/planet has to end eventually.
