New Wing Sketches
Mori: So, my headmate Rogan grew wings at the start of this year, and he's been indignant about it ever since. At the very end of August, they gruesomely abscessed, rendering him a human pancake for weeks on end, and we didn't mention it in public because why would we? But now he's recovered enough (though still not capable of walking or standing) that I feel okay posting sketches of it. Compare and contrast with how they were previously.

The injuries. Click to make them bigger, ain't nobody need to see that if they don't want to.

The bone shards I pulled out of them. Ditto.

When Rogan was finally well enough to do any movement, we got him an adjustable, crankable gurney. Everyone always thinks Sneak is tiny and scrawny, but ze is not. Ze is Amazon giantess.

Umbrella Rogan.

Rogan with his wings retracted. The scars are way more obvious when he does this. HOW DO YOU DO FELLOW HUMANS I TOO AM HUMAN.

Rogan's wings used to be a lot smaller (back when he still had them at all). At least healing from those abscesses meant his left wing now has full range of motion, and both are more dexterous now.

He's going to have to ask Sneak to completely remake his wardrobe. Now we know why winged people on TV always have the membranes nice and short; you can't wear JACK with them long. He's working on being able to furl the membranes a bit so at least they won't drag on the ground so much if he tries crawling with them. We still doubt his heavy ass will ever fly.

The problem of "bipedal humanoid: wing membrane vs clothing" reminded me of some early-RPG alien monkey-flying-squirrel type creatures i remembered seeing a year or two ago. I remembered it because they handled that membrane problem with an approach that seemed to shout, "we're illustrators, not biologists -- we're paid to make things look cool, not make sense!"
So I found it again and may I present to y'all, from the early days of TSR's Star Frontier RPG (originally published in the early '80s, just a few years after original DnD): the Yazirian alien species.. where the 'flying squirrel' wing membrane just fastens here and there (presumably just to keep up appearances) :)

Please tell me there's been at least one instance of pushing the gurney at full speed down a hallway or something similar.
I'll admit we thought Sneak was small as well- consider that corrected! I wonder why that's such a common assumption.

Oh dang membrane going down to the legs. That certainly is more sensible for stability but yeah, not great for attire. Options are either the sort of smock he's in there, or using something akin to spirit gum on key places on the body but that iiiisss not ideal. (I've got characters with wings that got cosmetic membrane piercings to allow a band around the waist for fashion reasons but considering the injury and healing, I don't think that'd be good idea at this stage)

(I genuinely never think about the sizes of headmates fdjkgh but if had to have guessed, i would have assumed sneak was smaller).
But whoa--wings. It sounds like a real pain to be reduced to a winged pancake, not to mention the whole issue of clothing.
That said, i imagine that once the wings are done growing and suitable clothes are made though, the wings will be a cool thing to have, even if flying may not be possible.
